March 12, 2004 - Goblin Fern Press, Inc. will celebrate author Anne Vandenburgh's recently released book, Lindbergh's Badger Days, Tuesday, March 16th from 7:00-9:00pm at "The Write Place" on Madison's west side. Vandenbergh is also a member of Goblin Fern Authors' Cooperative, the first American retail bookstore operated by the authors themselves.

The celebration will include a brief announcement by Kira Henschel, president and founder of Goblin Fern Press, and give people an opportunity to meet Vandenburgh and listen to her recount the journey from conception to production. Festivities are free and open to the public.

Vandenburgh has documented the university days of Charles Lindbergh in her book, Lindbergh's Badger Days. In 1927, Lindbergh was the first aviator to cross the Atlantic Ocean as a solo pilot in his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis. Charles Lindbergh was a student of mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He attended the University from 1920 to 1922, but left before obtaining a degree to follow his dream of becoming a pilot. He returned to the UW-Madison in 1927 to promote commercial aviation and again in 1928 to receive an honorary doctorate.

"Lindbergh's Badger Days takes the reader on a thought-provoking tour rich with charming anecdotal stories providing insights to the formative Madison, Wisconsin days of pioneer aviator Charles Lindbergh. Anne Vandenburgh's book provides a valuable cog in the Lindbergh mystique and is enhanced with rare and exceptional photography showing the strong link to the University of Wisconsin," said Karen A. Bleich of the Lindbergh Collectors Society.

Vandenburgh's background includes over 30 years serving as an academic librarian to the Steenbock Library (agriculture and life sciences), the Memorial Library (humanities), the Middleton Library (health sciences), and the Wendt Library (engineering, computer science, atmospheric and oceanic science, and statistics) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Named after an ancient fern plant that symbolizes "little things making big differences," Goblin Fern Press specializes in publishing unusual or controversial books that larger publishers might turn down. Striving to educate new and would-be authors, the Press offers monthly publishing workshops, book coaching and a wide range of authors' services, including full publishing, book marketing and self-publisher support. Book coach Kira Henschel has been working with authors, writers and publishers since 1984. "We take a very individualized approach to each book because we value the uniqueness of every author. It's wonderfully rewarding to take part in the birth of a book and watch dreams come true."

Lindbergh's Badger Days is available for sale online at www.goblinfernpress.com for $14.95 or at The Write Place bookstore for ten percent off in celebration of Small Press Month during March.
